The chain of the Gran Sasso includes the highest peak of the Apennines: Corno Grande Western peak 29m above sea level. The environment is particularly majestic and wild and allows a vision of the geological history of the massif admiring it from one of the most easily accessible places.
The excursion takes between 2/4 hours. Meeting, departure, means of transfer, return are agreed directly with the guide.

Path GRAN SASSO TOUR: BETWEEN OLD VILLAGES, SANCTUARIES AND HIGH PEAKS

Assergi (AQ). Visit to the village and the cultural center of the National Park Gran Sasso Monti della Laga, the historic center with the Eastern Gate, the Porta del Colle and the Porta del Rio. Inside the village it is possible to visit and admire the Church of Santa Maria Assunta, whose facade recalls that of Santa Maria di Collemaggio in L’Aquila. The Church hides inside another Church, an underground church dedicated to San Franco, the hermit saint who died in a cave not far from the village of Assergi. The small village also hosts two very important entities: the National Park Authority and Monti della Laga and the National Institute of Nuclear Physics.

Santo Stefano Di Sessanio (AQ). Small medieval village in the Province of L’Aquila, not far from the beautiful villages of Castel del Monte and Rocca Calascio. Santo Stefano di Sessanio, located at an altitude of 1,251, has a population of 120 inhabitants, who live on site all year round and is part of the prestigious selection of “The most beautiful villages in Italy“, like the nearby village of Castel del Monte. Became world famous as a tourist destination for the development of the “diffuse hotel” project Sextantio by the Swedish Daniel Kihlgren.

Nestled on top of a hill, the village of Santo Stefano di Sessanio enjoys a position that gives the visitor suggestive and wonderful panoramas such as those offered by the peaks of Sirente and Majella to the south and the majestic Campo Imperatore plateau to the north. The project allowed the restoration of the village, reconciling its original structure and its history with the most advanced innovation in a perfectly harmonious way. Visiting Santo Stefano now means understanding how another development model is possible.

Campo Imperatore refuge (AQ) at 2000 meters above sea level. The refuge, also known as Albergo di Campo Imperatore, is a hotel located on the edge of the Campo Imperatore plateau, on the slopes of Monte Aquila, in the Gran Sasso massif of Italy, within the municipal territory of L’Aquila.

Made in the thirties, modernized several times after the war, it retains the style and the atmosphere of the time. Famous for having been the prison of Benito Mussolini between 28 August and 12 September 1943 until his release by the German armed forces.
Today it is the main accommodation of the homonymous ski resort, as well as the starting point for hiking on the western side of the Gran Sasso.

Sanctuary of San Gabriele dell’Addolorata in Isola del Gran Sasso (TE). The sanctuary of san Gabriele dell’Addolorata, at the foot of the Gran Sasso, in the province of Teramo, is among the best known in Italy and in Europe. A recent ranking places it among the top fifteen most popular sanctuaries in the world. Two million pilgrims come there every year to pray on the grave of the young Passionist student San Gabriele dell’Addolorata.
